SOme of the scenes here are so spectacular. I don't see how anyone can stand against this.
There is definitely a current of radical progressive thought in action in Latin America. One has to ask the all important question: Will it spread?
Although there have been electoral set- backs in Peru, El Salvador and possibly Ecuador the various social and indigenous movements are still strong and the possibility of further radicalization there can not be counted out. While I have certain doubts about Ortega, the Sandinista victory may well give hope to the people and spark a renewed movement. There have been massive student strikes in Chile indicating that Chileans are coming out of the post- Pinochet doldrums. Neoliberalism has so obviously failed in Latin America that a return to the radical populist roots is seen as the only alternative.
