Not for the squeamish, as it lays out in great detail the insane cruelty toward children that predominated in Europe and the settler societies up till a generation ago. (Thanks to Y. A. When I was in Denmark, it was against the law to practice corporal punishment on a child. That was the first I heard of such an idea.
