Students in Chile, Quebec and the USA are organizing anarchist or libertarian socialist federations.
* In Chile, the Frente de Estudiantes Libertarios (FEL) http://felvalpo.blogspot.com/ has groups in five major cities. As well as active in the recent student general strike, they have produced some remarkable wall art (see their other website,
* SDS (Students for a Democratic Society) re-formed in January of this year and now has about 200 chapters, making it the largest student radical movement in the US. While not ideologically anarchist, SDS rejects top-down methods and statist politics, favoring student syndicalism. Many of its members are openly anarchists and libertarian socialists. A non-student group called MDS has also been formed as a sister organization, See:

* SCAN (the Student Community Anarchist Network ) (RAME in French) see
1. the "Anti-Capitalist Convergence" Group
Interesting list.
ReplyDeleteAny community-based organizations like this for us old farts who are not in the student set anymore and looking at this?
Just curious.
I don't know about the Ottawa region, Mike. Too bad we didn't have a Canadian version of MDS which is the stateside group for old farts like us. If anything should pop up I will write about it here, or get a hold of you through your blog. I don't see your blog listed with the Vast Left Wing Conspiracy blog feeder. Would you consider joining? By the way, that's a pretty nice bike you got!
Thanks Larry. Yeah, I have always meant to join the conspiracy but have just never gotten around to it.
ReplyDeleteAs for the bike, well, they have this Harley shop in Niagara Falls that lets you sit on their stuff for pictures....
I have to wait a few more years for the mid-life crisis before I can afford a bike like that..
