The Globe And Mail Article on Micheal Ignatieff reveals two things about his character which shows why it would not be good to have him as a PM. A one-time socialist, he sided with Thatcher during the Coal Miner's Strike. His reasoning? Coal mining was on its way out and the miners were on the wrong side of history. Such an attitude is indicative of moral weakness. Let's see, we sacrifice thousands of people for the sake of History. Where have we seen that before? Then in 2003 he supported the neocon attack on Iraq. This, in spite of the fact that everyone who knew anything about the Middle East opposed it. This in spite of the fact that the war was built upon obvious lies. Such willingness to dismiss the people who know something about a subject indicates incredible arrogance. His willingness to go along with a lie indicates moral weakness once more. We do not need the Ig. We already have an amoral individual in the PM”s chair.

I would say that Ignatieff is closer to a genuine type of [semi-literate] totalitarianism than the "Harpy". Naturally everything today is more "sensitive and aware". Light cigarettes, light beer, light fascism ... moderatiion in all things. Iggy, Soros and all the other "limousine liberals" ( love that phrase!) will get together to finalize Orwell's "total war" ... and Chomsky will blame it all on the New York Times.
ReplyDeleteThe Kingdom of the Flea:
ReplyDeleteCanadian politics is a rather itchy affair. Scratch a Leninist and find a social democrat underneath. Scratch a social democrat and find a Liberal underneath. With the single exception of the new cabinet minister from BC 'Liberal' is about as far to the bone as this self mutilating pruritis goes in most cases. Perhaps because the "political-medical system" usually intervenes at this point and appplies plasters consisting of a good mix of honours and dollars. This seems to relieve the itch in almost all cases.
Let the Conservatives, however, succeed in establishing something more than a tradition of briefly grabbing power until the 'Natural Governing Party' shines up its exterior and you can lay good money that many Liberals will become quite itchy as well.
The 'flea' in this case is the ability of people to profit in a number of ways from the political game, and the only way that it will ever stop is if the environment that scratching reveals is made no more profitable than the overlaying area of skin. There are numbers of ways in which this can be done. One doesn't break the flea growth cycle after all by only doing one thing.
I sort of like the idea that MPs who jump parties should be FORCED to run in a byelection. But some fleas can spend time off the victim, as both Ignatieff and Bob Rae show. So this is insufficient.
Any other ideas ?
The people I find really scary are those social-working creeps from the Green party. Their slogan is(was) " neither left nor right but forward "...or whatever. I told one of their candidcates, during the second last federal election, that this was a quote from Mussolini.

... also proportional representation would help a little ... a state of "permanent devolution" ie. minority government with the relative improvement that usually follows.
