Finally!

At last people are attempting to reverse the insanity of North American suburban existence. Rather than sprawl, a new community like a village. Includes minimizing auto traffic, setting up a land trust, affordable housing and no house more than 5 minutes walk from a school. This is to take place in Bamberton on Vancouver Island, Thanks to Marie Helene for sending this to me.

The plans for Bamberton were nixed years ago, ironically done in by self-appointed "environmentalists" who don't know the difference between sprawl and a garden.

Oh, I personally think such a project can be taken up again. It's just that it might be easier to do in places like Alberta or Sasketchewan or Utah than in B.C., Washington State or Oregon.

I definitely believe a community of people can engage in an open space and open source process to design, develop and build their own town and country settlements...as well as their own supply chain network as well. Maybe with a little help from Kirkpatrick Sale and the Venture Communists we can figure this out. ;
